Canada Day

Celebrate Canada’s Birthday at MacDonald Island Park! Join us for a full day of free community-oriented family fun and entertainment! 

The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC), in collaboration with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), is pleased to announce the line-up of Canada Day celebration events that will take place at MacDonald Island Park on July 1 this year.

Pancake Breakfast

Canada Day 2018 in Wood Buffalo will kick off on the morning of July 1 with a Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo from 8:00am – 10:00am.


Shuttles to the annual Canada Day Parade will be available beginning at 9:30am at the front entrance of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre for a 10:30am start. After the parade ends at Morrison Street, shuttles will also be available to transport parade attendees back to MacDonald Island Park to enjoy a full day of family activities and entertainment.

Family Activities

Beginning at noon on July 1, children can enjoy the Craft Carnival presented by Finning, Birthday Cupcakes provided by CNRL, face painters, bouncy castles and public swimming at the Syncrude Aquatic Centre. Children’s entertainment presented by Kidomo will feature performances by Toopy & Binoo at 1:00pm and 3:00pm at the Mix 103.7 & 100.5 CRUZ FM Family Main Stage. A very special event taking place at 2:00pm and 4:00pm in the parking lot near the Family Main Stage will be a visit from everyone’s favourites, Chase and Skye of Paw Patrol, for a meet and greet with kids.

Evening Activities

Beer gardens and lawn games will begin at 5:00pm in the MacDonald Island Parking lot adjacent to the Fox Den Lounge, with the Country 93.3 & 97.9 Rock Community Music Showcase at the Music Main Stage also starting up at 5:00pm.

At 6:05, watch the Fort McMurray Giants host the Melville Millionaires for an evening game at the Shell Place Baseball Stadium.

Starting at 8:30pm, the Country 93.3 & 97.9 Rock Music Main Stage will feature a variety of popular local musical performers, including Midlife Crisis, Soul Speaker, Dan Tulk Band, and the final act of the evening, The Dungarees!

The evening will finish off with a bang with the Syncrude Grand Finale Fireworks scheduled for 11:59pm.
