Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge coming to MacDonald Island Park this fall
04-Apr-12
Fort McMurray, AB, April 4, 2012 – MacDonald Island Park will be home to the first annual Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge in support of Noralta Skating Club, the host committee announced today at a media conference at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
The Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge will take place September 27-30 at MacDonald Island Park and will include a series of traditional and non-traditional sporting events and a social component. Teams of 12-16 people representing different community organizations will compete in a friendly, yet competitive environment that emphasizes teamwork and fair play. The winner will be the team that amasses the most points from a schedule that includes fun events like dodgeball, the human bonspiel, the bus pull, and inner tube water polo.
Organizations can register their team at wbcc.ca, the official website for the Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge, or at MacDonald Island Park Guest Services, located on the main concourse of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
The Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge host committee is excited to announce the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) as the first community organization to back the event financially. The RMWB is contributing $35,000 to the Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge and is issuing its own challenge to the corporate community to support the event.
“This is the type of event we envisioned when we embarked on building the Suncor Community Leisure Centre at MacDonald Island Park,” said Sheldon Germain, RMWB Acting Mayor. “On behalf of Mayor Melissa Blake and RWMB Council, we put our full support behind the Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge and hope the business community jumps on board in the days and months ahead.”
Three organizations that have officially signed on to compete at the Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge are the Bouchier Group, Access Insurance Group, and Northlands Forest Products.
“If you’re looking for team building and some healthy competition at a world-class facility in support of a key community sports organization like Noralta Skating Club, then the Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge is for you,” said Jodie Mercier, Wood Buffalo Corporate Challenge Co-Chair and Director of Sport & Recreation at MacDonald Island Park. “Events like this do not get off the ground without great partners. We’d like to thank the RMWB for getting us started and the Noralta Skating Club for its efforts in shaping the event.”
