Wild Colour Portraits by Russell Thomas opens December 1 at MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by Kirschner Family Corporation
The MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by Kirschner Family Corporation is pleased to welcome Wild Colour Portraits by Russell Thomas to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre as the final exhibition of 2016.
The exhibition is a collection of over 80 paintings created by local visual artist, actor, writer, director and producer Russell Thomas. Thomas has received significant local, provincial and national attention for his work, which has evolved rapidly since he began painting portraits with acrylics in 2014.
During the opening reception in December, Thomas will attempt to finish ten paintings in one day as part of a painting marathon, with the portraits to be revealed at the opening reception and available for auction at that time. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to The United Way of Fort McMurray. In addition, there will be a special presentation of new paintings revealed to the public for the first time during the evening reception.
“We are delighted and proud to host this exhibition at the gallery as we close out 2016,” said Annette Antoniak, Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. “Russell is not only a talented visual artist, but a key member of our community who uses his skills to benefit others in our region.”
The opening reception for the Wild Colour Portraits exhibition takes place at 7:00 pm December 1 at the MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by Kirschner Family Corporation. Light refreshments will be served and all community members are invited to attend. The Wild Colour Portraits exhibition will be available for viewing from November 10 – January 28.
