Warm weather forces schedule changes to Grand Slam of Curling, the National
(Fort McMurray, AB, March 13, 2014) – The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) would like to advise pass and ticket holders of Grand Slam of Curling, the National of event schedule changes caused by warm weather affecting CNRL Arena 2.
The sudden temperature change overnight on March 11-12 caused the roof to leak and condensation to build at CNRL Arena 2, affecting the venue of play for the event.
In collaboration with Sportsnet, play will be reduced from five to four sheets for both the 5:00 pm MT and 8:30 pm MT draws on Thursday, March 13. The two postponed matchups from Thursday have been re-scheduled for Saturday morning at 9:00 am. Crews will work overnight on Thursday and into Friday morning to ensure the remaining sheet affected by condensation is ready for Draw 6 on Friday at 10:00 am MT.
“You never want something like this to happen at an event of this calibre, however the one thing that was out of our control was the sharp increase in warm weather that affected the venue,” said Tim Reid, Chief Executive Officer of the RRC. “Thank you to all pass and ticket holders, volunteers, our community partners including Fort McMurray Oilsands Curling Club and its members, Sportsnet, these world-class teams and our dedicated ‘ONE’ Team staff members working to deliver a memorable experience for everyone involved.”
