Turf installation at SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place complete
(Fort McMurray, AB, October 17, 2014) – The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) is pleased to announce the installation of the field turf at SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place is now complete.
“We are delighted with the significant progress made to date at SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place,” said Dirk Maritz, Regional Operations Director, SMS Equipment. “We are pleased to partner with the RRC to bring this dynamic and exciting new sport, recreation and event experience venue to the community of the Wood Buffalo region.”
SMS Equipment Stadium is one of the key features of the new Shell Place expansion at MacDonald Island. The $127 million expansion, which broke ground in 2012, also includes a field house, badminton centre, social profit shared space, softball/baseball tournament centre and more.
“As we head towards the incredible events coming to our region in 2015 it is a pleasure to share the progress of the construction of Shell Place with the community,” said Russell Agnew, Interim Chief Operating Officer of the RRC. “With turf installed at SMS Equipment Stadium you can truly begin to visualize the exciting events that will take place here, including the Northern Kickoff presented by Shell Albian Sands in June, 2015.”
The Northern Kickoff presented by Shell Albian Sands on June 13, 2015 will bring a season-opening exhibition game featuring the Edmonton Eskimos and the Saskatchewan Roughriders to SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place for the most northern game in CFL history.
