Time to lace up the running shoes for the Fort McMurray Half Marathon on September 20
The organizing committee of the Fort McMurray Half Marathon is pleased to announce the event takes place this year on Sunday, September 20. The Fort McMurray Half Marathon is a partnership between the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC).
“We are delighted to be partnering with the RMWB to bring the third annual Fort McMurray Half Marathon to the community,” said Kelsey Stefanizyn, Fort McMurray Half Marathon Organizing Committee Event Chair and Events Manager of the RRC. “We have experienced tremendous community support and participation in the past two years and we look forward to welcoming back runners from previous years as well as new participants.”
The Fort McMurray Half Marathon includes a Half Marathon, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km road races and a Kids Fun Run. The marathon held in 2014 saw strong community support with over 600 participants taking part in the event.
Registration for the 2015 marathon has been capped as follows: 3 km run, 60 participants; 5 km run, 160 participants; 10 km run, 250 participants and 21.1 km run, 200 participants. The Kids Fun Run has open registration and has not been capped. The 35th annual Terry Fox Run also takes place on September 20, starting at 12:30 pm along the same route.
Online registration for the event opens at 10:00 am on May 25 at ONErec.ca. The Fort McMurray Half Marathon race package pickup will take place on Saturday, September 19 at Community Registration Day presented by Syncrude at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
