Steel construction underway at Baseball/Softball Tournament Centre at Shell Place
(Fort McMurray, AB, December 19, 2013) – Construction of the steel structure at the new Baseball/Softball Tournament Centre at Shell Place has begun this month, with significant progress being achieved despite colder temperatures.
The 2300-seat Baseball/Softball Tournament Centre will have the capacity to hold 5,500 spectators with the accompanying ‘Berm’ and ‘Party Zone’ areas, and is a key community recreational component of Shell Place, on schedule to open in 2015 adjacent to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
“The steel construction at the Baseball/Softball Tournament Centre is a noteworthy marker of progress at Shell Place,” said Tim Reid, Chief Operating Officer at MacDonald Island Park. “This important amenity was driven by the community and very much reflects the strong interest and participation in softball and baseball at all levels of the game in our region. Shell Place continues to be delivered on time and on budget, meeting the commitments we made to the community during our engagement process for this iconic addition to our downtown core.”
Construction of the Baseball/Softball Tournament Centre will continue over the coming months, with the fifth scheduled quarterly media update set for January 17, 2014.
