Shell Place wins 2015 Commercial Design Award from Alberta Construction Magazine
Shell Place, located at MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray, is the recipient of a 2015 Top Projects Commercial Design Award from Alberta Construction Magazine.
The Alberta Construction Magazine Top Projects Awards recognize projects in the four major construction sectors: commercial, civil, industrial and infrastructure and are awarded annually.
“We are delighted Shell Place is the recipient of this prestigious award,” said Annette Antoniak, Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. “We would like to also extend our thanks and congratulations to our partners on this project: Clark Builders, Turner Construction, Architecture|TB and HOK. Shell Place presents new opportunities to the community of the Wood Buffalo region for sport, recreation and event experiences, and we are thrilled the design of the project has been recognized in this manner.”
Officially opened to the community on June 12, 2015, Shell Place was developed and designed through a series of community engagements and consultations. In addition to SMS Equipment Stadium, the facility also hosts a variety of key community amenities, including the CNOOC Nexen Stage, the Baseball Stadium, the Redpoll Centre (social profit shared space) operated by the United Way of Fort McMurray, conference and hospitality spaces, an Indoor Turf Field House, Indoor Badminton Centre and more.
