Shell Place underground utility development to begin this week
(Fort McMurray, AB, October 26, 2012) – The underground utility development required to deliver Shell Place will begin this week.
The initial phase of the underground utility development will last approximately 7-10 days. The area of the parking lot from the main entrance to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre around to the old tennis courts will be affected, with up to 200 of close to 1,000 total parking stalls being taken offline for the necessary work.
Parking access in this area will be unavailable intermittently as underground utility development and associated Shell Place construction continues in the months ahead. As a consequence, MacDonald Island Park encourages the community to park in other areas of the parking lot going forward, while accessing the Suncor Community Leisure Centre via the main entrance or the north entrance adjacent to the Miskanaw Golf Club Pavilion.
A portion of the affected area is the future home of the new Badminton Centre and Field House.
Additional parking stalls are scheduled to be added on the west side of the parking lot adjacent to C.A. Knight Way. This work is set to begin in late 2013 or early 2014 at the earliest.
“We thank community members for their understanding as we continue to make progress on the Shell Place project,” said Tim Reid, Chief Operating Officer at MacDonald Island Park. “We are weeks away from the delivery of our first commitment – the expansion of the Total Fitness Centre. Overall, the result will be a tremendous addition to the Island and to a revitalized Fort McMurray City Centre.”
