RRC partners with Salvation Army and NorthLife Church Soup Kitchen to support those in need
The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo has partnered with The Salvation Army and the NorthLife Church Soup Kitchen to provide surplus food from the Hospitality Department at MacDonald Island Park to programs operated by both organizations.
“The Salvation Army of Fort McMurray welcomes this wonderful partnership with MacDonald Island. By their donating of surplus food, the growing need within our community will continue to be met by providing quality and nutritious meals to those within our two shelters and soup kitchen. A special thank you to both Gleemol Dias, Director of Hospitality and Sudhir D’Souza, Executive Chef, for their caring and community spirit. On behalf of the recipients, we say thank you!” said Joan Nobles, Program Manager of the Salvation Army.
“It is exciting to join in partnership with MacDonald Island to provide meals to those in need in Fort McMurray. Currently we spend an average of $1000/week in food purchases to provide our patrons with full course delicious and nutritious meals. MacDonald Island’s donation of meal surpluses will certainly help with that cost, promote unity within our community, and most importantly: provide our kitchen crews and patrons a special treat of extra variety,” said Joseph Enverga, Soup Kitchen Director. “The NorthLife Church Soup Kitchen is a place for Fort McMurray churches, businesses, and friends to go to serve or to be served. Sixty to seventy individuals gather day to day as a family while an average of 45 volunteers a week give lovingly of their time Monday to Friday. At the Soup Kitchen, we all seek to grow in character as we all try to hang on till things turn around again. After all, hope tastes good! Thank you to MacDonald Island for sharing the wonderful talent of your kitchen crew. I believe partnerships within the community such as ours demonstrate our love and care for our generous city.”
This new partnership with two local organizations continues the commitment of the RRC to seeking collaborative opportunities to benefit the Wood Buffalo region.
“We are delighted to embark on this exciting partnership with The Salvation Army and the NorthLife Church Soup Kitchen,” said Annette Antoniak, Chief Executive Officer of the RRC. “Our community is stronger when we work together, and through this partnership we can help these two vital organizations continue to meet their mandate and support those in need in Fort McMurray.”
