Route information released for Fort McMurray Half Marathon on September 20
The organizing committee of the Fort McMurray Half Marathon is pleased to announce the route for the event which takes place this year on Sunday, September 20. The Fort McMurray Half Marathon is a partnership between the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC).
“This new routing has been designed to challenge our participants while showcasing some of the new features in the downtown core of Fort McMurray,” said Kelsey Stefanizyn, Fort McMurray Half Marathon Organizing Committee Event Chair and Sales and Events Senior Manager of the RRC. “We have had strong participation in the half marathon in the past two years and this year presented a great opportunity to develop a fresh and inspiring route for our enthusiastic runners.”
The Fort McMurray Half Marathon includes a Half Marathon, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km road races and a Kids Fun Run. The marathon held in 2014 saw strong community support with over 600 participants taking part in the event.
Registration for the 2015 marathon has been capped as follows: 3 km run, 60 participants; 5 km run, 160 participants; 10 km run, 250 participants and 21.1 km run, 200 participants. The Kids Fun Run has open registration and has not been capped. The 35th annual Terry Fox Run also takes place on September 20, beginning at 12:00 pm from the same starting point as the Half Marathon Route.
Online registration for the event is now open at ONErec.ca. Race package pick-up will take place on Saturday, September 19 at Community Registration Day presented by Syncrude at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre (10:00 am – 2:00 pm).
