Registration now open for Fort McMurray Half Marathon
(Fort McMurray, AB, June 19, 2014) – Registration opens today for the Fort McMurray Half Marathon. The September 14 event is presented by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC).
“With race day less than three months away we want potential participants to take a break from their training and sign up for this year’s run,” said Kelsey Stefanizyn, Fort McMurray Half Marathon Organizing Committee Event Chair and Events Manager of the RRC. “Given the success of the marathon last year we anticipate a strong response and encourage interested individuals to register early to ensure their participation,”
The Fort McMurray Half Marathon includes 21.1 km, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km road races and a Kids Fun Run. The inaugural marathon, held September 2013, saw enthusiastic community support with close to 600 participants taking part in the event.
Registration for the 2014 marathon has been capped as follows: 3 km run, 30 participants; 5 km run, 160 participants; 10 km run, 250 participants and 21.1 km run, 200 participants. The Kids Fun Run has open registration and has not been capped. The annual Terry Fox Run also takes place on September 14, starting at 1:00 pm.
