Nominations open for MacDonald Island Park Walk of Honour
(Fort McMurray, AB, September 7, 2012) – The MacDonald Island Park Board of Directors is accepting nominations for the MacDonald Island Park Walk of Honour until September 30.
Interested community members and organizations can submit Walk of Honour nominations at macdonaldisland.ca. The inductee will be selected by the MacDonald Island Park Board of Directors and announced at the annual State of the Island gala in October.
“As a community-based organization, MacDonald Island Park recognizes members of our community that have gone above and beyond in making our region a great place to live,” said Nick Sanders, Chair of the MacDonald Island Park Board of Directors. “The 2012 Walk of Honour inductee will be someone that has provided true leadership in the community.”
The Walk of Honour designation is an annual honour awarded to an individual(s) that has made an outstanding contribution to recreational, social and/or cultural life in the Wood Buffalo community.
Former longtime Fort McMurray resident and community builder Brian Hatfield was the first-ever Walk of Honour inductee in 2011. A plaque commemorating Hatfield’s Walk of Honour induction lies on the main concourse of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
