Miskanaw Golf Course back nine opens May 2 to walking traffic
(Fort McMurray, AB, April 29, 2013) – The back nine at Miskanaw Golf Course opens to walking traffic only on Thursday, May 2 at 9:00 a.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis, weather permitting.
“We’re excited to open Miskanaw Golf Course in stages as we push through a long winter,” said Rob MacGregor, PGA of Canada Director of Golf and Grounds at MacDonald Island Park. “Thursday we’ll open the back nine to walking players and then to carts later in the week as we work towards full course opening given current conditions.”
Tee times for the back nine are available beginning on Saturday, May 4, when carts will also be available for players. Miskanaw Golf Course assessments are made on a daily basis and full course opening with carts will take place as soon as it is conducive.

Looking ahead, Miskanaw Golf Course re-development is ongoing with a new No. 6 and No. 7 set to open as early as Canada Day. In the interim, No. 12 has been split into a par-3 and par-4 to allow players for further options as re-development is completed.
“The new No. 6 and No. 7 will maintain the basic structure of the old holes but will deliver a much more professional experience for golfers,” said MacGregor. “While the short fall and lengthy winter certainly did not cooperate with our re-development initiatives, the grounds team is working diligently to have those new holes ready as soon as possible.”
On the personnel front, Miskanaw Golf Club has bolstered its staff for the 2013 season, as new PGA of Canada head professional Josh Fleming has joined the ‘Mi Team’ in this capacity.
“Josh comes to us from Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Club in Kelowna where he honed his leadership skills at one of British Columbia’s finest courses. We already have a great golf and grounds team in place and he’ll only add to the top flight service that Miskanaw members and players in general deserve.”
