Men’s Curling Gold Medalist Jacobs headlines the National presented by Syncrude
(Fort McMurray, AB, February 24, 2014) – The Grand Slam of Curling, National presented by Syncrude will host a star-studded lineup of internationally renowned men’s curling teams headlined by Brad Jacobs, the Men’s Curling Gold Medalist at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
The impressive roster of men’s teams competing in the event at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre from March 12-16 also includes 2010 Winter Olympic Games Gold Medalist Kevin Martin, 2006 Winter Olympic Games Gold Medalist Brad Gushue, the National defending champion Jeff Stoughton and curling icon Glenn Howard.
“We are now preparing to welcome the best men’s curling teams in the world to Fort McMurray, including several Winter Olympic Games Medalists,” said Jodie Mercier, Director of Sport and Recreation of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo and Fort McMurray Organizing Committee Co-Chair of Grand Slam of Curling, National presented by Syncrude. “We are anticipating five exciting days of curling action on the heels of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, with a selection of names well known in the sports world. Additionally, in response to the demand we have experienced we are also announcing the release of Single Draw General Admission tickets, which means even more curling and sport enthusiasts will be able to enjoy this incredible world-class curling event, broadcast live across the country.”
CNRL Arena 2, location for part of the very successful 2013 M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Curling Championships, will be transformed for Sportsnet television crews which will shine a spotlight on Fort McMurray and the Suncor Community Leisure Centre. Construction of scaffolding for the National presented by Syncrude will begin at the arena on February 26, with regular operations resuming on March 23.
Single Draw General Admission tickets for regular draws at the Grand Slam of Curling, National presented by Syncrude are $25 plus applicable fees and taxes, while tickets for the Finals are $30 plus applicable fees and taxes. Single Draw General Admission tickets for the draw on Wednesday March 12 at 7:00 pm include access to the opening ceremonies, which begin at 6:30 pm.
All-event General Admission passes to the National presented by Syncrude are also available. All Event General Admission passes include admission to The Sheepdogs presented by ROCK 97.9 FM on March 15. Tickets can be purchased at macdonaldisland.ca and at Guest Services on the main level of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
