MacDonald Island Park facility operations during Western Canada Summer Games 2015 Wood Buffalo announced

 In advance of the upcoming Western Canada Summer Games 2015 Wood Buffalo, the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) would like to advise the community of details regarding parking, facility hours and amenity operations at MacDonald Island Park during the games.

Parking/Access to MacDonald Island Park

  • During the opening ceremonies on August 7 and the closing ceremonies on August 16 the members reserved parking policy established in 2011 will be in effect (200 parking stalls reserved for ONE Pass members accessible by showing a ONE Pass membership card to security)
  • Vehicle access to the Island will not be restricted during the games, including during the opening and closing ceremonies, but parking for visitors to the Island may be limited and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis from August 7-16
  • Public transit through Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will be available and visitors to MacDonald Island Park are encouraged to utilize this method of transportation and/or carpooling to reduce congestion
  • Ticket holders attending the opening and/or closing ceremonies are encouraged to take advantage of special complimentary municipal transit available to anyone with a ticket to the event
  • Anyone with official Western Canada Summer Games accreditation (e.g., volunteers, VIPs, media) or a person with an event ticket (e.g., superpasses, sport tickets) can use municipal transit for free from August 7-16 (bus routes will remain on their normally scheduled routes and times)

Facility Operations at MacDonald Island Park

  • Normal operating hours at MacDonald Island Park will be in effect from August 7-16
  • Amenities that will be unavailable to the public due to events taking place during the Western Canada Summer Games 2015 are:

o   CNRL Arena 2 from August 1- August 23

o   CNOOC Nexen Energy Field House and CNOOC Nexen Activity Field House from August 4 – 17

o   Syncrude Aquatic Centre from August 12-15

  • SMS Equipment Stadium, the Baseball Stadium and the Indoor Turf Field House at Shell Place will also serve as host venues for various events during the games
  • All other amenities at MacDonald Island Park, including the Fort McKay Group of Companies Running Track and TOTAL Fitness Centre, will operate as per normal operating hours for the duration of the games
