MacDonald Island Park expansion to begin with new Total Fitness Centre
Fort McMurray, AB, September 6, 2012 – The MacDonald Island Park expansion project is scheduled to get underway with expansion of the Total Fitness Centre, located on the second floor of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
The $127-million MacDonald Island Park expansion project, which was approved by Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Council on July 10, includes expansion of fitness and wellness space at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
The construction process on a new and expanded Total Fitness Centre will begin on Thursday, September 13 and will include a closure from September 13-16 inclusive to situate existing and new fitness equipment into temporary fitness space adjacent to the existing Total Fitness Centre. The temporary space will open on Monday, September 17 as construction begins.
Construction is scheduled for completion by November 19, at which time the new Total Fitness Centre will open at nearly double its current size and featuring a series of new fitness equipment.
“We are tremendously excited to have the opportunity to deliver on what the community expressed as a need at the series of expansion engagement sessions that were held,” said Tim Reid, Chief Operating Officer at MacDonald Island Park. “We’ll re-open on September 17 and we look forward to a bigger and better Total Fitness Centre coming to the Island in November.”
In addition to an expanded Total Fitness Centre, the community can take advantage of the new ‘Mi Play Pass’ at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre. Annual members holding a valid ‘Mi Play Pass’ from now until September 30 receive a complimentary month on their membership.
“The free month of Suncor Community Leisure Centre access is a way of saying ‘thank you’ to the annual members that choose MacDonald Island as their home for recreation,” said Jodie Mercier, General Manager of Sport and Recreation at MacDonald Island Park. “Annual members will also receive front-of-the-line online access to concerts and events while both annual and monthly members will receive front-of-the-line online access to programs.”
A full breakdown of ‘Mi Play Pass’ benefits are available at macdonaldisland.ca, including the new $999 annual family membership price.
As construction begins on an expanded Total Fitness Centre, MacDonald Island Park invites the community to the official groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion project. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. adjacent to the existing softball diamonds at MacDonald Island Park.
