Lace up and let’s go – exciting new post-race activities at 2015 Fort McMurray Half Marathon
The organizing committee of the Fort McMurray Half Marathon would like to advise participants of some new post-race activities and remind the community that Saturday, September 19 is the final date for registration for participation in the 2015 Fort McMurray Half Marathon.
The Fort McMurray Half Marathon is a partnership between the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC). The event takes place on Sunday, September 20 and includes a Half Marathon, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km road races and a Kids Fun Run. The marathon held in 2014 saw strong community support with over 600 participants taking part in the event. This year the prize package for the Male and Female top finishers in the 21.1 km half marathon category will include a Sport Chek prize pack, one adult ONE Pass Membership for MacDonald Island Park, a $500 travel voucher and a Freshii gift.
Registration for the 2015 marathon has been capped as follows: 3 km run, 60 participants; 5 km run, 160 participants; 10 km run, 250 participants and 21.1 km run, 200 participants. The Kids Fun Run has open registration and has not been capped. The 35th annual Terry Fox Run also takes place on September 20, starting at 12:30 pm.
Online registration for the event is now open at ONErec.ca. The Fort McMurray Half Marathon race package pickup will take place on Saturday, September 19 at Community Registration Day presented by Syncrude at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
“We are already seeing strong registration numbers for the 2015 Fort McMurray Half Marathon,” said Kelsey Stefanizyn, Fort McMurray Half Marathon Organizing Committee Event Chair and Senior Events and Sales Manager of the RRC. “We would like to take this opportunity to remind interested individuals of the final date to register as we welcome this exciting event back to Fort McMurray for the third year. This year, thanks to the generous support of our partners, we are also offering some exciting post-race activities for our participants, like massages, smoothie shots, manicures, face painting and a bouncy castle for the kids, a selfie photo wall and more, making this a perfect event for the entire family to participate in and enjoy!"
