Golf legends to offer free lessons ahead of FMFCS Tournament of Hope
Miskanaw Golf Club is pleased to announce PGA Tour and LPGA Tour legends A.J. Eathorne, Gail Graham, Dave Barr and Dan Hallordson will offer free junior golf lessons on Friday in advance of the Fort McMurray Family Crisis Society Tournament of Hope, which takes place on Saturday.
60 junior players from the Wood Buffalo region 8-18 years of age are expected to participate in the lessons, which will be held at the driving range, putting green and chipping green.
Players can still register for the Tournament of Hope. Eathorne, Graham, Barr and Hallordson will be on hand for the event.
“We’re more than happy to partner with the Fort McMurray Family Crisis Society as these golf legends bring their expertise to our community,” said Rob MacGregor, CPGA Director of Golf & Grounds at MacDonald Island Park. “Coming off of the heels of our successful Junior SNAG (Starting New at Golf), this is another step in our goal to ensure golf is accessible to youth in the area.”
Miskanaw Golf Club is also excited to announce revamped holes on No. 14 and No. 18 are now open to members and the public, while No. 12 has returned to its usual configuration as a par-5.
The reconstruction on No. 14 and No. 18 finished ahead of schedule, as new waste bunkers and tee decks highlight the new holes.
“This completes our reconstruction of the existing course for this season and we look forward to the best part of the year as summer heats up. We remind players that they can book a tee time online at macdonaldisland.ca,” said MacGregor.
The National Golf Course Owners Association’s Take A Kid To The Course runs from July 9-15 at Miskanaw Golf Club. Throughout the week, juniors 16 years of age and under can accompany adult players free of charge, while adult players will receive a discounted rate.
Take A Kid To The Course is designed to encourage families and juniors to take up the game of golf: this national campaign illustrates how easy it is to improve both your score and your relationship with your children by bringing them out to the golf course. 640 courses across the country, including Miskanaw Golf Club, are taking part in the program.
