Fort McMurray Monarchs new anchor football tenant in SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place
The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo is pleased to announce a partnership with the Fort McMurray Monarchs Football Club that will see the Monarchs as the anchor football tenant in SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place at MacDonald Island Park.
“We are heading into the 2016 season with a strong roster, a committed coaching staff and a new home field at MacDonald Island Park,” said Jesse Maddox, President of the Fort McMurray Monarchs Football Club. “We anticipate a great summer of football as we continue to build on the last two seasons and we are really looking forward to playing in front of our fans at SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place.”
The Monarchs have developed a strong fan base in the region since their 2014 inaugural season as part of the Alberta Football League. With the motto “For Team and City”, the Monarchs have captured the enthusiasm and excitement of football in Fort McMurray and harnessed the energy into the development of a strong and competitive team. The Monarchs are also actively involved in the community in the region, participating in a variety of events to support local social profit organizations such as the Wood Buffalo Food Bank among others, and providing football camps for local youth to introduce them to the sport.
“We are tremendously excited to welcome the Fort McMurray Monarchs as the anchor football tenant at SMS Equipment Stadium,” said Annette Antoniak, Chief Executive Officer of the RRC. “This summer is shaping up to be an exciting season filled with football with the Monarchs and baseball with the Fort McMurray Giants, and we are delighted to join with these partners to present new opportunities for residents of the region to enjoy sport entertainment options in our community.”
