Fort McMurray Half Marathon takes place September 14
(Fort McMurray, AB, June 9, 2014) – The organizing committee of the Fort McMurray Half Marathon is pleased to announce the event takes place this year on Sunday, September 14. The Fort McMurray Half Marathon is a partnership between the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC).
“We are very pleased to be partnering with the RMWB to bring the Fort McMurray Half Marathon to the community,” said Kelsey Stefanizyn, Fort McMurray Half Marathon Organizing Committee Event Chair and Events Manager of the RRC. “We are looking forward to a great day in September welcoming community members for an event that is continuing to grow in popularity and participation.”
The Fort McMurray Half Marathon includes a Half Marathon, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km road races and a Kids Fun Run. The marathon held in 2013 saw strong community support with close to 600 participants taking part in the event.
Registration for the 2014 marathon has been capped as follows: 3 km run, 30 participants; 5 km run, 160 participants; 10 km run, 250 participants and 21.1 km run, 200 participants. The Kids Fun Run has open registration and has not been capped. The annual Terry Fox Run also takes place on September 14, starting at 1:00 pm.
Registration opens at 10:00 am on June 19 at macdonaldisland.ca where participants can also view the scheduled routes and start times for the various races. The Fort McMurray Half Marathon race package pickup will take place on Saturday, September 13 at Community Registration Day presented by Syncrude at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
