Excitement builds as official draw schedule for the National presented by Syncrude released
(Fort McMurray, AB, March 5, 2014) – The host committee is pleased to announce the full draw schedule for the Grand Slam of Curling, National presented by Syncrude has now been released and can be viewed online at macdonaldisland.ca/grandslam. The five-day curling event televised live across the country on Sportsnet and featuring several Olympic medalists, including 2014 Winter Olympic Games Gold Medalist Brad Jacobs, takes place at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre from March 12-16. Other well known names participating in the event include 2014 Winter Olympic Games Bronze Medalist Niklas Edin of Sweden, 2010 Winter Olympic Games Gold Medalist Kevin Martin, 2006 Winter Olympic Games Gold Medalist Brad Gushue, the National defending champion Jeff Stoughton and curling icon Glenn Howard.
The National presented by Syncrude commences on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00 pm with the Opening Ceremonies, followed by the first draw. The Finals will be played on Sunday, March 16 at 10:00 am, followed by the Closing Ceremonies. The full draw schedule is available here: macdonaldisland.ca/grandslam.
“With the release of this draw schedule the excitement for the National presented by Syncrude is truly building,” said Jodie Mercier, Director of Sport and Recreation for the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo and the National presented by Syncrude Host Committee Co-Chair. “We have the best men’s teams in the world coming to Fort McMurray for this event that will be televised nationally on Sportsnet, and we have a full line-up of community entertainment and activities in conjunction with all the curling action.”
Community members are also invited to visit ‘The Patch’, the entertainment zone located across the hall from CNRL Arena 2, venue for the National presented by Syncrude. ‘The Patch’ is open 4:00 pm to 12:30 am from March 12-14 and admission is free to the general public on all days excluding Saturday March 15. On March 15 ‘The Patch’ will be the host venue for the concert event headlined by The Sheepdogs with special guests Sentimental Gentlemen presented by ROCK 97.9 FM. Doors at ‘The Patch’ will open on March 15 at 6:00 pm. Admission to The Sheepdogs is by General Admission tickets which are available for $45 plus applicable fees and taxes, or through the All-Event Pass which includes concert access.
Single Draw General Admission tickets for regular draws at the Grand Slam of Curling, National presented by Syncrude are $25 plus applicable fees and taxes, while tickets for the Finals are $30 plus applicable fees and taxes. Single Draw General Admission tickets for the opening draw on Wednesday March 12 include access to the opening ceremonies, which begin at 7:00 pm.
All-Event General Admission passes to the National presented by Syncrude are also available. All Event General Admission passes include admission to The Sheepdogs presented by ROCK 97.9 FM on March 15. Tickets can be purchased at macdonaldisland.ca and at Guest Services on the main level of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre. Previously purchased All-Event Passes for the event are now available for pick-up at Guest Services.
