Edmonton Eskimos announce pre-season game in Fort McMurray
(June 14, 2013, Fort McMurray, AB) – The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club in partnership with MacDonald Island Park and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announce the Northern Kickoff, to be held at the new Shell Place in Fort McMurray, Alberta on Saturday, June 13, 2015.
The CFL pre-season game, scheduled as a ‘home’ game for the Eskimos, will feature the Edmonton Eskimos against the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders and will be broadcast live on TSN from the new and currently under construction SMS Stadium at Shell Place.
Shell Place is a $127 million community development project scheduled to open in 2015 at MacDonald Island Park in downtown Fort McMurray.
The Northern Kickoff game and associated community and fan events will be presented by Shell Albian Sands.
“This will be an incredible event for Fort McMurray and the entire Wood Buffalo region,” said Melissa Blake, Mayor of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and Chair of the Northern Kickoff. “As the cornerstone of what will be the official opening of Shell Place, the Northern Kickoff is something much more than the most Northern game in CFL history; it’s an opportunity to share our community with the rest of Canada along with the amazing things happening here.”
Fans in Fort McMurray and the general public can reserve seats for the Northern Kickoff game on Friday, June 28 at 10:00 am MT by visiting ESKS.COM. No ticket reservations will be accepted at MacDonald Island Park Guest Services.
Edmonton Eskimos season seat holders are advised they will receive an exclusive ‘Front of Line’ window to exercise their option to purchase Northern Kickoff tickets. Our entire organization is thrilled to be a part of this historic CFL event,” said Len Rhodes, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club and Vice Chair of the Northern Kickoff. “I also feel strongly that this game presents a wonderful opportunity for us to develop a relationship with Fort McMurray and the people that share Northern Alberta with us.”
A Fort McMurray-based Northern Kickoff organizing committee of community and industry leaders is in place to assist with the planning and activation of the Northern Kickoff along with the Eskimos, residents of Fort McMurray and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and MacDonald Island Park staff.
