‘Details and Distances, Part II’ opens August 1 at MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery
(Fort McMurray, AB, July 29, 2013) – The MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by Kirschner Family Corporation is pleased to present the second part of an exhibition series titled ‘Details and Distances, Part II’. Artists Helen Hendriks and Sally Lockhart return to the gallery with their new works depicting the same subject matter painted from different points of view – one as viewed from a distance, and one a detailed view from a closer vantage point.
The exhibition is comprised of twenty-four sets of paintings. Inspired by the differing styles of the artists, Lockhart’s paintings are bold and colourful, often depicting sweeping landscapes, while Hendriks’ paintings are more muted and representational. The juxtaposition of style and view are meant to reflect the difference viewpoint makes both in art and life experiences.
“It is a genuine pleasure to welcome these two artists back to the gallery after their initial exhibition in 2012,” said Jodie Mercier, General Manager of Sport and Recreation at MacDonald Island Park. “It’s exciting to share with the community the works of two local artists who collaborate to create an exhibition that shows how differing perspectives can translate into different artistic points of view and produce stunning results.”
The opening reception for ‘Details and Distances, Part II’ is at 7:00 pm on Thursday August 1 at the MacDonald Island Community Art Gallery presented by Kirschner Family Corporation. The exhibition will be available for public viewing until August 25.
