Community Registration Day presented by Syncrude a major success
(Fort McMurray, AB, September 14, 2013) – Community Registration Day presented by Syncrude brought close to two thousand community members to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre on Saturday as they explored the many opportunities for involvement in sports, recreation, culture, arts, and other groups and organizations in the Wood Buffalo region.
Community Registration Day is a trade show format showcase of local groups and organizations allowing them to connect directly with the community in a one-stop shop event designed to assist community members to engage with local organizations and groups while also learning how they can become involved.
“Community Registration Day was an incredible success this year, with a record 83 groups and organizations participating,” said Jodie Mercier, General Manager of Sports and Recreation at MacDonald Island Park. “Though collaboration with Volunteer Wood Buffalo and Nonprofit Sector LINK Wood Buffalo the event connected our community with the many opportunities they have to become more involved, and developed networks that will be beneficial to the community as a whole. A special thank you is due to Syncrude Canada, which was once again presenting partner this year, as well as to media partners Country 93. FM, Rock 97.9 FM, Mix 103.7 FM, 100.5 K-Rock, KAOS 91.1 FM and the Fort McMurray Today for their strong support of the community.”
Prior to the community showcase at Nexen Field House, Nonprofit Sector LINK Wood Buffalo hosted its annual Networking Breakfast at Miskanaw Ballroom, which included a keynote address from Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Councillor Russell Thomas entitled “The 10 Immutable Laws of Effective Networking.” The Networking Breakfast set the stage for the event, which also included Volunteer Wood Buffalo’s Volunteer Appreciation Barbeque.
Community Registration Day is organized and delivered by an advisory committee comprising representation from the following organizations:
