Community invited to celebrate 2014 Winter Olympics through art project
(Fort McMurray, AB, February 12, 2014) – Community members are invited to participate in a free one-day workshop dedicated to the creation of a temporary recycled-art installation celebrating the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The public art project, which will feature pieces created by community members during the afternoon workshop, will be on display in the main concourse of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
The workshop takes place on Saturday, February 22 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the main concourse of the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, and all necessary art equipment will be supplied to participants.
“We are delighted to invite the community to participate in a public art project to celebrate the 2014 Olympic Winter Games,” said Tim Reid, Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC). “There has always been a strong arts and culture component to Olympic celebrations, and we encourage residents to come out and share their Olympic spirit and excitement through the creation of this public art installation as we cheer on Team Canada together.”
The temporary recycled-art installation will be on display in the main concourse at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre until late March. The project is presented to the community through collaboration between the RRC, the Wood Buffalo Artists Forum and the Fort McMurray Public Library.
