Big Pitch Classic final outdoor event at expansion site
(Fort McMurray, AB, August 27, 2012) – MacDonald Island Park in partnership with the Wood Buffalo Slo-Pitch Association is proud to announce the Big Pitch Classic, September 14-16 at MacDonald Island Park.
The Big Pitch Classic is a co-ed, recreational slo-pitch tournament and will serve as the final outdoor event at the site of the MacDonald Island Park expansion project. Individuals or groups interested in submitting a team are invited to contact Jill Kerrigan, Wood Buffalo Slo-Pitch Association Treasurer, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration is $350 per team and is limited. As a co-ed tournament, four women must be on the field at all times.
“We’re very pleased to partner with the Wood Buffalo Slo-Pitch Association for what will be a fun weekend of slo-pitch and good times at the Big Pitch Classic,” said Tim Reid, Chief Operating Officer at MacDonald Island Park. “The softball diamonds at the Island are rich in history and there’s no better way to celebrate where we’re headed as a community than with this event as a finale.”
The Big Pitch Classic will include a beverage and BBQ tent throughout the weekend, while the official groundbreaking ceremony for the MacDonald Island Park expansion project will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15 adjacent to the four softball diamonds.
“The Big Pitch Classic allows us to bid farewell to the current softball diamonds at MacDonald Island as the community begins expanding recreational opportunities that will benefit slo-pitch and softball players from across the region,” said Curtis O’Brien, Wood Buffalo Slo-Pitch Association President.
“We’ve already received tremendous interest in the Big Pitch Classic from the slo-pitch community,” added Kerrigan. “Deadline for registration is September 10, so we encourage people to get involved as soon as possible to secure their spot.”
