Annual Miskanaw Golf Club Member Appreciation Night celebrates golf in the community
(Fort McMurray, AB, May 20, 2013) – The Miskanaw Golf Club hosted its annual Member Appreciation Night on Friday, May 17, 2013, and welcomed the upcoming 2013 golf season by celebrating the support of the club members.
Dignitaries in attendance were Don Scott, MLA for Fort McMurray-Conklin and Associate Minister of Accountability, Transparency, and Transformation, Mike Allen, MLA for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo, and Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Mayor Melissa Blake. Miskanaw Golf Club’s Joshua Fleming, CPGA Head Golf Professional, and Rob MacGregor, CPGA Director of Golf and Grounds, took the opportunity to thank members of the club for their continued support, and to share with them their excitement over the continuing redevelopment of the course. MacDonald Island Park Corporation Board of Directors Chair Nick Sanders and Chief Operating Officer Tim Reid were also in attendance to show their appreciation to the gathered members of the golf club.
On behalf of the Alberta provincial government MLA Mike Allen presented a cheque for $125,000 to Tim Reid, COO of MacDonald Island Park. This grant was obtained through the Community Facility Enhancement Program from Alberta Culture, and pertained to the expansion of the TOTAL Fitness Centre in late 2012.
During the events of the evening Miskanaw Golf Club representatives accepted a cheque for $20,000 from Jamie Matei, Director of Operations at Saskana Safety Limited, for the new sponsorship of Hole #5 on the course.
MacDonald Island Park COO Tim Reid said, “What a terrific evening to thank, acknowledge, and celebrate the members of the Miskanaw Golf Club! The support of our members and sponsors is what makes this club a success, and that success enables us to pursue new avenues, like introducing local youth to golf. Last year we taught 3000 young people to swing a golf club, and that is the best way to keep sport alive in this community. Engaging youth is a huge priority for us at MacDonald Island Park and the Miskanaw Golf Club, and we truly want to show our membership how much we appreciate their continuing support”.
