Annual Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! returns for another successful year
(Fort McMurray, AB, June 15, 2014) – The fourth annual Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! Fort McMurray presented by Mix 103.7 FM returned to MacDonald Island Park for another successful and record-breaking year with 104 teams registered and over 600 participants taking part over the weekend of June 14 and 15.
The local celebrity game on Saturday, June 14 saw several community personalities battle it out on the street hockey rink, including Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Councillors Keith McGrath, Tyran Ault, Sheldon Germain and Phil Meagher; Fort-McMurray Conklin MLA and Minister of Accountability, Transparency and Transformation Don Scott; Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo MLA Mike Allen; Steve Jani of Christina River Enterprises; Mike Carlsen and Steve Hulan of Edge Hockey Academy; Christina Traverse of Mush McMurray; Lori McDaniel, NDP candidate in the Fort McMurray-Athabasca riding and several local media personalities. RMWB Mayor Melissa Blake was in attendance as honorary head official. The tense game finished with an 8-6 win for Team Matt Barron over Team Amanda Propp, Team Captains for the celebrity game and Mix 103.7 FM radio morning show hosts.

Fort McMurray Event Chair and Interim Director of Sport and Recreation of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. “We were so fortunate to enjoy beautiful sunny weather, had a great turnout and with the support of our enthusiastic players and partners we were able to bring another tremendously successful street hockey tournament to the community.”
Partners including Mix 103.7 FM, Edge Hockey Academy, Christina River Enterprises, Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, CEDA, Wood Buffalo Small Animal Hospital, Boston Pizza, Ketek, Culligan and Aluma Systems joined with the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo to bring the annual Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! to Fort McMurray this year.
