Annual Fort McMurray Half Marathon celebrates third successful year
The 2015 Fort McMurray Half Marathon took place on Sunday and recorded another tremendous success for organizers and participants as community members took to the streets to participate in the third annual half marathon event in downtown Fort McMurray.
“Once again this event was made a success through the strong support of our partners and participants,” said Kelsey Stefanizyn, Fort McMurray Half Marathon Organizing Committee Event Chair and Senior Manager of Sales and Events of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC). “We would like to thank our partners who helped us to creative a festive and celebratory atmosphere for the marathon participants, our incredible volunteers who supported the event again this year and all the community members who came out to have fun and participate in what has become a popular annual event in Fort McMurray.”
The Fort McMurray Half Marathon is a partnership between the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC). The 2015 Fort McMurray Half Marathon included a Half Marathon, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km road races and the Mix 103.7 FM Kids Fun Run. The 35th annual Terry Fox Run also took place along the same route on Sunday. The routing of the races took participants on a path through the downtown core and showcased some of the new amenities in Fort McMurray, starting and finishing at MacDonald Island Park.
