Inaugural Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Syncrude Elite 10 sweeps to a finish

Team McEwen was crowned the winner of the inaugural Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Syncrude Elite 10 on Sunday afternoon at CNRL Arena 2 at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre. The final draw was played before a sold out crowd and national CBC television audience. The finals brought to a close an exciting four days of curling that brought the ten top men’s curling teams in the world to Fort McMurray for this new event on the Grand Slam of Curling tour.

Sunday’s Finals concluded an event that saw incredible curling action, including the Semi-Final match-ups on Saturday evening which pitted Team Edin against Team Jacobs and Team McEwen against Team Koe, leading to the Finals between Edin and McEwen.

The four day curling event was televised live across the country on Sportsnet with the quarter-finals and finals featured on CBC. The Syncrude Elite 10 included several Olympic medalists including Team Jacobs, 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics Gold Medalists, Team Edin, 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics Bronze Medalists, and 2014/2015 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling series Masters and Canadian Open winners Team Gushue. The impressive roster of men’s teams competing in the event from March 19-22 also included Team Carruthers, Team Epping, Team Koe, Team Laycock, Team McEwen, Team Howard and Team Michel.

The Syncrude Elite 10 also included several community events such as entertainment at the Grand Slam Social House, including headliner Brett Kissel presented by Country 93.3 FM and the Fort McMurray Oilsands Curling Club Junior Grand Slam on Saturday afternoon.
