FITNESS PROGRAMS
FITSTART PROGRAM FitStart is a Free and mandatory program for all youth fitness members 13 and 14 years of age. Led by one of our Certified Fitness Specialists, this program will provide our youth with valuable information including:
· Fitness centre safety
· Proper form and technique
· Fitness centre etiquette
· Standardize youth fitness programming
YOUTH DROP-IN BADMINTON Monday nights are our badminton nights at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre. One Field House will be booked off for all Badminton enthusiasts. Youth will run from 6:00p.m. - 7:30p.m. One of our Sport Specialists will be on hand each week to arrange a quick box league tournament. Register at Guest Services and sign in with our Sport Specialist on the Field House and enjoy a night of competition and fun. All shuttles will be supplied and racquets can be rented for a nominal deposit. Date: October 1 - December 27 Day: Monday Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Cost: $5 YOUTH DROP-IN BASKETBALL Join us Thursday nights for youth drop-in basketball. Each Thursday from October to February we will have two hours of youth basketball in one of our two Field Houses. Our Sports Specialists will organize participants on teams and have a small scrimmage or mini-tournament each week. Basketballs and pinnies are supplied by MacDonald Island. Bring your shoes down for some recreational basketball. Date: October 7 - January 27 Day: Thursday Time: 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Cost: $5 YOUTH DROP-IN FLOOR HOCKEY Every Wednesday from November to March we will hold a drop-in floor hockey night for youth ages 12 to 15. Our Sport Specialist will put participants on teams each week and have a scrimmage or mini tournament. Goalie equipment, pinnies and balls are supplied by MacDonald Island Park. Bring your own composite tapeless stick or rent a floor hockey stick from Guest Services for a nominal deposit. Date: November 3 - February 23 Day: Wednesday Time: 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Cost: $5 drop-in fee YOUTH LEARN-TO-PLAY BADMINTON If your son or daughter has ever wanted to start a new sport and didn’t know how, we have the answer. Our learn-to-play programs are designed for the absolute beginner looking for a new challenge. Starting in January our one hour learn-to-play badminton program will teach the basics and rules of the game. Our Sport Specialist will also allow time for some friendly competition each week. Shuttles are provided and racquets can be rented for a nominal deposit each week. This program is suitable for youth aged 12-15 years old. Date: January 7 - March 25 Day: Friday Time: 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Cost: $60 SPORTS of ALL SORTS on EARLY DISMISSAL FRIDAYS (Ages 8-14 years) Looking for something for your son or daughter to do on early dismissal Fridays? Every Friday from September to June we will have Sports of All Sorts in one of our two field houses. Each week we will play a different sport and kids will be divided according to age. We’ll can keep your kids active in a safe and supportive environment. Please check out our website for dates. A good babysitter knows all of these things and more. Learning them can be easy and fun with the RED CROSS BABYSITTING COURSE. The newly revised babysitting course is updated for today's youth. Age: 11yrs - 15 yrs
JUSTIN SLADE YOUTH FOUNDATION AT MACDONALD ISLAND PARK
This spring, the Justin Slade Youth Foundation (JSYF) is opening up shop at MacDonald Island Park with exciting new programs or teens! Targeted at youth aged 12 to 18, their mission is to empower young people to make better life choices and to express themselves in a positive way through music, drama, art and sport. Starting in May, they’ll launching several programs for teens at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre aimed at getting at, meeting new friends and having fun. Stay tuned because this is just the beginning! Burn of some energy, make new friends and rev-up some healthy competition in the Open Recreation League. This program runs twice weekly and rotates through a range of sports including basketball, floor hockey, volleyball and more. Prizes for sportsmanship will be given regularly during the season and at the end of the summer, youth will be recognized for their participation and success. This program promotes teamwork and empowerment through sport. If you’re interested in building your skills, trying new sports and meeting new people, then this is the place for you! All programs and activities in JSYF Presents are offered free of charge for youth ages 12 to 18. Programs are run on a drop-in basis, but youth must complete initial registration and consent forms before participating.
