Miskanaw Golf Club History

- 1967 - Volunteer groups complete construction on Miskanaw G & CC- then a 9 hole par 27 course.
- 1970 - Course redesigned to a 9 hole par 35 course with sand greens.
- 1978 - MacDonald Island Recreation Complex is built.
- 1983 - Course was redesigned to an 18 hole par 70 course with grass greens.
- 1987 - Course lengthened to a par 72.
In 2007 a total of 31,879 rounds of golf played. (27,450 is the average for Northern Alberta)
Redevelopment History

2002
- Robert Kains Golf Design Ltd. retained
- Provided an overview of current condition of the golf course, note deficiencies, and provide improved concepts
- Meyers Norris Penny report to Council
- Identified that significant capital is required to maintain the facility at an acceptable level, and golf course upgrades could exceed $5 million dollars
2003
- June 23 - MacDonald Island Park holds open house
- Surveyed the members in regards to the conditions of the golf course
- RM of WB approved 2006-2010 Capital Budget
- $600,000 in 2006 for Miskanaw Golf Course Rehabilitation
- First year for four years of funding totaling $2.4 million.
2006
- Robert Kains again engaged
- Provided potential upgrade concepts of the golf course due to impacts from the construction on the MacDonald Island Park Facility Redevelopment
- Provided timelines for the redevelopment with the concept of 18 holes always being maintained for play during construction
- June 20 - MacDonald Island Board approves golf course redevelopment concept
2007
- April 10 - development permit approved by RM of WB
- Miskanaw Golf Course redevelopment, including all clearing and grubbing
Community Engagement

2006
- June 28 - MIP Open House conducted
- David Gabriel Head Professional, and Robert Kains Golf Course architect presented
- Purpose: to provide information to golf club members and community members in regards to: current golf course conditions, redevelopment master plan, total budget, and fundraising initiatives

- July 13 - Press Release for redevelopment
- Press release sent to all local media detailing the key points to the redevelopment project

2007
- January 17 - MIP Open House conducted
- Update community on planned changes to North Point of MacDonald Island - Included construction of 3 new holes, overall golf course redevelopment plan, and urban park trail changes
- Changes to design made based on input from members
- 2006/2007 golf events
- David Gabriel Head Professional presented redevelopment plan to players in various club tournaments - total attendance: 440 golfers
Redevelopment Project Overview

- 14 new greens
- 18 upgraded fairways
- Pro Shop and Clubhouse move to Pavilion building
- 4-tee concept (play longer/shorter than current)
- New driving range (longer and wider)
- Integrate three new holes and urban park trails at North Point of the island
- New mounding, bunker renovations, adding water hazards
- New concession, on-course washrooms, and upgrades to golf maintenance area
Project Construction

2006/2007
- 3 New holes constructed at North Point area
- Water hazard built for new par 3
- Opening date: July 1st, 2008
- New tee boxes complete for current 18th hole
- Opened August 2007
2008
- Construction on holes 15, 16, 17 - Three holes opened
- Necessary improvements to irrigation pond
2009
- Construction
- Holes 12 and 13 were completed. Holes 8, 10, and 18 were worked on in the Fall
- Opening of the Golf Pavillion and the grand opening of the Fox Den Lounge.
2010
- Opening of the new 12 and 13 in the Spring.
- Construction on holes 8, 10, and 18 in progress.
