Aquatic Centre Hot Tub Maintenance
PLEASE NOTE: The adult hot tub/whirl pool at the Syncrude Aquatic Centre will be closed for routine maintenance on February 21 and re-open on February 22. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Aquatic Centre Rules

Rules Conform to the Province of Alberta’s Public Health Act Requirements for Public Swimming Pool Operations & the Manufacturer’s Operating Guidelines

 

General Safety

For the Comfort & Safety of All Members, Guests & Staff:

  • Outdoor footwear and strollers are not permitted in the showers or on the pool deck.
  • Children 7 years of age and under are required to remain within arm’s reach of a caregiver, 16 years of age or older. A maximum of three children per caregiver is allowed. Please note, the only exception to this rule is for 5 and 6 year olds on the blue spray park pad. They must have a caregiver on the blue spray park pad with them at all times, but they do not need to be within arm’s reach.
  • Children 8 and 9 years of age must have a caregiver, 16 years of age or older, present in the Aquatic Centre.
  • Members and guests with communicable diseases, or who have been recently ill, are asked not to use the Aquatic Centre until they have been given permission to do so by a physician.
  • Members and guests must take a cleansing shower prior to entering swimming pools, whirl pools, the sauna and the steam room.
  • Help us maintain excellent water quality by visiting the washroom before swimming, and please do not spit in the water or on the deck.
  • Young children who are not yet toilet trained and any other bather who is incontinent must wear a snug-fitting, water-resistant swim pant under a bathing suit (available at guest services). Disposable and cloth diapers are not permitted in the pools at any time.
  • Members and guests who appear to be intoxicated are not permitted to use the Aquatic Centre.
  • With the exception of water in a plastic container food and beverages are not permitted on the pool deck.
  • Please walk on the pool deck.
  • Only employees and designated coaches are permitted to walk on the bulkheads.
  • Verbal and/or physical abuse towards staff, our members and our guests will not be tolerated. Members and guests who display inappropriate behavior will be asked to leave the Aquatic Centre.
  • Aggressive play, which may injure members or guests, is not permitted. This includes pushing, dunking, play-fighting or throwing another swimmer, and sitting on the shoulders of another member or guest.
  • Animals are not permitted into the Aquatic Centre (except for service dogs).
  • The use of cameras and other photographic devices by members and guests is not permitted in the Aquatic Centre.
  • Only members and guests with wrist bands are permitted on the pool deck. The one exception to this is parents of children who are participating in swimming lessons. They are welcome to sit on the benches around the pool. Proper indoor footwear or bare feet are required.
  • Lockers are provided for day-use only and articles may not be left in lockers overnight.
  • MacDonald Island Park assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items and recommends that valuables be left at home.
  • The maximum capacity of the Aquatic Centre is 1,250. The bather limit may be adjusted at the discretion of the aquatic staff.

 

Water Slide Safety

Both Yellow and Purple Slides:

  • Eye glasses must be safely affixed to sliders with a head band or they may not be worn on the slide. Goggles and face masks are not permitted.
  • Only one slider is permitted on each water slide at a time.
  • Forming chains with other sliders is not permitted.
  • Swim wear with exposed zippers, buckles, or metal ornamentation is not permitted.
  • Sliders must wait at the top of the stairs until the lifeguard or attendant instructs the slider to go down the water slide.
  • Keep arms, legs and hands inside the slide flume at all times.
  • Do not run, dive, stand, kneel, rotate or stop in the slide flume.
  • At the end of the slide obey all instructions from the lifeguard and exit quickly.
  • Warning: For safety reasons, pregnant women and persons with heart conditions or back
  • and neck trouble should not use the water slides.

 

Yellow Slide:

  • The maximum slider weight permitted on the yellow water slide is 136 kg (300 lbs).
  • You must be a minimum height of 1.02m (40”) tall to slide on the yellow water slide.
  • Sliders must slide in a feet-first position, in either a sitting up or lying down position. Sit up to go slower, lie back to go faster.


Purple Slide:

  • The maximum slider weight permitted on the purple water slide is 182 kg (400 lbs).
  • You must be a minimum height of 1.22m (48”) to slide on the purple water slide.
  • Sliders must slide in the flume and on a tube.
  • Only one inner tube is permitted to enter the flume at one time.
  • Tubes must be ridden in a seated position facing forward.

 

Adult Whirl Pool Safety

  • Members and guests 16 years of age and older are permitted to use the adult whirl pool.
  • The temperature of the water in the adult whirl pool shall not exceed 40°C or 104°F.
  • Members and guests must take a cleansing shower before and after using the adult whirl pool.
  • Members and guests who appear to be intoxicated are not permitted to use the adult whirl pool.
  • Members and guests who are pregnant or who have heart disease and/or high blood pressure, diabetes, circulatory or respiratory problems and those taking prescription medication are advised to use the adult whirl pool only on the advice of their physician.
  • Please remove lifejackets, personal flotation devices and bathing caps prior to entering the adult whirl pool.
  • Members and guests are asked to keep their heads above the surface of the water while relaxing in the adult whirl pool.
  • The maximum number of users permitted in the adult whirl pool at any one time is 17.
  • Members and guests are to limit their stay in the adult whirl pool to 10 minutes at one time. Please cool down prior to re-entering the adult whirl pool.

 

Family Whirl Pool Safety

  • Children 5 years of age and under are permitted to sit on the edge of the family whirl pool with their feet in the pool. They are not permitted to enter the water, and their caretaker, 16 years of age or older, is still required to remain within arm’s reach.
  • Children 6 years of age to 11 years of age are permitted to use the family whirl pool when accompanied by a caregiver, 16 years of age and older. Please note the “within arm’s reach” rule still applies for children 7 and under.
  • Members and guests must take a cleansing shower before and after using the family whirl pool.
  • The temperature of the water in the family whirl pool shall not exceed 38°C or 100°F.
  • Members and guests that appear to be intoxicated are not permitted to use the family whirl pool.
  • Members and guests who are pregnant or who have heart disease and/or high blood pressure, diabetes, circulatory or respiratory problems and those taking prescription medication are advised to use the family whirl pool only on the advice of their physician.
  • Please remove lifejackets, personal flotation devices and bathing caps prior to entering the family whirl pool.
  • Members and guests are asked to keep their heads above the surface of the water while relaxing in the family whirl pool.
  • The maximum number of users permitted in the family whirl pool at any one time is 33.
  • Members and guests are to limit their stay in the family whirl pool to 10 minutes at one time. Please cool down prior to re-entering the family whirl pool.

 

Diving Board Safety

  • Members and guests who wish to use the diving boards may be asked to demonstrate their ability to pass the Aquatic Centre’s deep end swim test, under the supervision of a lifeguard.
  • Members and guests may not remove the “Diving Board Closed” signs from the diving boards without being directed to do so by a lifeguard.
  • Only one person is permitted on a diving board at one time.
  • Upon entering the water divers must immediately exit at the ladder closest to the diving board.
  • Wait until the diver ahead of you has left the diving board before climbing the ladder.
  • Swimming underneath the diving boards is not permitted.
  • Only one bounce is permitted on the diving board.
  • Members and guests may not adjust the fulcrum on a diving board without the permission of a lifeguard.
  • Running, inward diving and reverse diving are not permitted.
  • Toys, balls and goggles/face masks may not be used on the diving boards.
  • On head-first dives, hands must enter the water before the head.
  • Hanging off and sitting on the diving boards, or guardrails, is not permitted.
  • Lifeguards are responsible for diving activities. Use of the diving boards is at the discretion of the lifeguard on-duty.

Adult Sauna Safety

  • Members and guests must be a minimum of 16 years of age to use the adult sauna.
  • This is a dry electrical sauna. Please do not pour liquid on the elements.
  • The temperature in the sauna shall not exceed 71°C or 160°F.
  • Members and guests must take a cleansing shower before and after using the sauna.
  • Members and guests who appear to be intoxicated are not permitted to use the sauna, and will be asked to leave the Aquatic Centre.
  • Pregnant women, persons with heart disease and/or high blood pressure, diabetes, circulatory or respiratory problems and persons taking prescription medication are advised to use the sauna only on the advice of their physician.
  • It is recommended that you drink plenty of water before and after using the sauna. Only water in a plastic container is permitted in the sauna.
  • Proper bathing attire must be worn in the sauna. Wearing exercise and/or street clothing in the sauna is not permitted.
  • Exercising in the sauna is not permitted and doing so will result in your removal from the Aquatic Centre.
  • The maximum number of users permitted in the sauna at any one time is determined by the lifeguard on-duty.
  • Members and guests are to limit their stay in the sauna to 10 minutes at one time. Please cool down prior to re-entering the sauna.

 

Adult Steam Room Safety

  • Members and guests must be a minimum of 16 years of age to use the adult steam room.
  • The temperature in the adult steam room shall not exceed 43°C or 110°F.
  • Members and guests must take a cleansing shower before and after using the adult steam room.
  • Members and guests who appear to be intoxicated are not permitted to use the adult steam room and will be asked to leave the Aquatic Centre.
  • Members and guests who are pregnant or who have heart disease and/or high blood pressure, diabetes, circulatory or respiratory problems and those taking prescription medication are advised to use the steam room only on the advice of their physician.
  • It is recommended that you drink plenty of water before and after using the adult steam room. Only water in a plastic container is permitted in the adult steam room.
  • Proper bathing attire must be worn in the adult steam room. Wearing exercise and/or street clothing in the steam room is not permitted.
  • Exercising in the adult steam room is not permitted.
  • The maximum number of users permitted in the adult steam room at any one time is determined by the lifeguard on-duty.
  • Members and guests are to limit their stay in the adult steam room to 10 minutes at one time. Please cool down prior to re-entering the steam room.

 

Lazy River Safety

  • Members and guests using the lazy river are required to be sitting on a Syncrude Aquatic Centre inner tube.
  • Inner tubes are designed to be ridden by one person at a time.
  • The “within arm’s reach” rule applies while in the lazy river. Both caregiver and child must each be in their own tube.
  • Syncrude Aquatic Centre inner tubes are the only equipment permitted in the lazy river.
  • Entry to the lazy river is allowed from the stairs in the back end of the leisure area and from the splash down pool for the purple slide.
  • Members and guests are to remain seated while in the lazy river. Kneeling, rocking and diving off the tubes is not permitted.

 

Splash Park Safety

  • The Spray Park is designed for members and guests 11 years of age and younger. Please respect the younger users while in this area.
  • Children 4 years of age and younger are permitted to use the spray park when accompanied within arm’s reach of a caregiver, 16 years of age or older.
  • Children 5 and 6 years of age are permitted to use the spray park when accompanied by a caregiver, 16 years of age or older, on the blue spray park pad (the caregiver must be on the pad, but does not need to be in arm’s reach)
  • The maximum slider weight permitted on the green water slides is 91 kg (200 lbs).
  • Only one slider is permitted on each water slide at a time.
  • Please walk in the spray park.
